What Is This?
This zine is a TouTen, or Touya-Tenko centric ship zine. It focuses on the “what if” alternate universe of Touya (Dabi) and Tenko (Shigaraki).

Why Is The Zine Called Monochrome?
The name Monochrome was inspired by the characters’ hair colors changing from black to white & white to black. As well as the idea that good and evil are often labelled as black and white, even though morality is something that also happens in grey tones. We want to show TouTen in all shades of grey.

Will The Zine Actually Be In Black And White?
Why yes. That's the plan. Though we are considering making at least one color spread in the middle of the zine.

How Will You Compensate Contributors?
Our goal is to compensate contributors with a full zine bundle.
If we make enough after taxes and break even, then we will give everyone (including mods) an equal distribution of 50% of the profit. The other half is going to charity. We have decided on a charity for at-risk children, but not which specific charity as of yet. We are open to suggestions!

Will This Zine Contain Manga Spoilers?
This zine will contain spoilers because most of this is only just getting animated.

Are other pairings accepted?
Everything must center TouTen, but creators can get creative with pitches.

Will this be SFW or NSFW?
It will be a sfw physical and nsfw pdf. We are not including more extreme content in this zine to make it more consumer friendly. This does not express any form of judgement about contributors; we do not care what contributors make outside the zine.

Will problematic content be allowed?
Please keep it within things that wouldn't need an archive warning on Ao3.

How will you moderate the content in your discord/zine?
Depending on the assigned discord role, certain channels will be available. We trust discord members to self-regulate. If needed, mods will come together to assess situations as they arise.
In the zine, each piece of writing will have warnings listed in the table of contents, as well as on each piece. For the art, please heed the warnings listed in the table of contents as there may not be tags on the pages. When posted as previews, each zine will have the appropriate tags in the // trigger format.

What headcanons are okay?
Everything! This is a SFW physical zine with a soft NSFW pdf add-on but anything that stays in the universe is okay. Trans headcanons and cisswap are both okay.

For the applications, what kind of content is okay to submit?
➤ It is okay to submit any kind of samples of art as long as they are tagged. The art mod is perfectly okay with any content as long as they are forewarned.

Why can't minors apply?
Our Sincerest apologies to all the professional, level headed, talented, hard working and creative minors out there. Because this is a for profit and NSFW project, it is impossible for us to allow minors to participate. This is due to the 18+ material that will be present, as well as paying our contributors. We hope you understand, and would love to see you in fandom projects soon!

What you need to submit:
Three complete works One BHNA piece is mandatory, Tomura/Tenko Dabi/Touya preferred. Feel free to have wips and sketches in your portfolio to show workflow.Portfolio can be a website or google or anything else just make sure to have everything visible. Make sure any nsfw is marked or in a folder with adequate warnings.Gore and noncon works are okay as long as they're tagged. There will be a place in the form to indicate this. No lolisho submissions.Style can vary from piece to piece, as long as it's consistent within the work.
What are we looking for in your Art?
We are looking for student to professional level pieces that show mastery of value and shading, shadows/highlight, use of space, and strong composition
Consistent line
Line work can look a lot of ways! We are open to any style your heart desires. Depending on the style you use, your line art should meet certain criteria.
Line weight should create depth, and vary according to shadows.Line should be stable, and not wobble.Match value with the piece. Not all line art has to be black.
Understanding of value
Monochrome is a black and white zine. Value understanding will carry your work.
-Good contrast. If you take away the color, is everything the same grey?
-Accuracy of Value. A sunny scene won’t have strong blacks.
Good color theory
Disclaimer: Unless you are the cover artist or a merch artist, you will be making your work black and white. However your submissions will have color, so here is what we’re looking for!
Strong color choices. Boldness and creativity.Color palette that compliments the concept of the work.Good understanding of color theory like good application of warm and cool colors.
Light
Light should be dynamic and interesting. Good use of cast shadows and lighting contrast.
Figures
Since this is a character based zine, figures will be central to your composition. Work should demonstrate a good understanding of figures. Works with multiple figures can help you.

What you need to submit:
Three submissions with min. word count of 1k and max. of 2.5 Max total wordcount is 7.5k

What are we looking for in your writing?
We are looking for consistency, word choice / grammar, characterization, good descriptions, and the ability to tell a complete story with a restricted word count.
Consistency
While different works can divulge from each other, pieces submitted should be consistent within themselves. Basically, it should feel like the same person wrote the piece and it flows within itself. Sentence fluency is important; the clearer your sentences flow together, the easier it is to read.
Word Choice / Grammar
Unique and strong word choice is a must. Word choice often has a lasting impact on readers and on your work. While poor grammar will not overly penalize you, it does indicate lack of overall understanding in writing. Most often, it will affect the first requirement of consistency.
Characterization
While not much is known specifically about Tenko or Touya’s personality, their overall characterization should not vary very far from what little has been established or based on what is known about Tomura or Dabi’s characterization. Pieces in which they feel too out of character may affect your acceptance.
Good Descriptions
Along with consistency and word choice, a strong ability to write descriptions will help readers picture your story. The less ambiguity, the better as it leaves less room for confusion.
Ability to Tell A Short Story
While some writers are quite prolific, a requirement of being in a zine is that there is a word limit to work within. The ability to write a consistent, coherent story within the limited word count (minimum of 1k and maximum of 2.5k) shows a good mastery of writing.
